Present day Indian festival of Holi is actually derived from the ancient festival of Madanotsava (with different variations available in the name), which was a festival of Madana or Kama (Deva), a personification of God of Sex and lust, which was celebrated since the period of the old settlement(s)/civilization(s) in India as a kind of a yearly event at the start of a pleasant weather after the end of the winters, the most suitable period for copulation, in which the young ones of both sexes, especially the ones attaining puberty, were allowed in a manner to mix with each other with a degree of freedom that they could touch and play with each other without shame or restrictions in the open in order to impress the upon the opposite sexes so that so they could choose their partners for mating, mostly with consent. #Kanwal
